Working on this project was fun. My goal was to create a standard deck of 52 (Ace-King). I play a lot of card games and I have always loved new takes on this very old deck concept. The most fun and rewarding part was creating the numbering for cards 1-10. I wanted to work with "sacred geometry" and minimalism to create playing cards that had a different feel from the usual.

The Number:

The four shapes that I chose already have established meanings. They each represent an element and a season. The numbering system was something that I had a lot of fun creating. I wanted each number to be distinct and symmetrical. This way the number would never be mixed up no matter the angle or orientation of the card.

The Process:

One big challenge was easy readability. I wanted first time players to easily understand the layout and meaning of the card. I also had to keep in mind that cards needed to be readable from both ends and that the back pattern couldn't give away the orientation of the card. Cards would also have to be readable when the cards were fanned out in a hand where the center would mostly be covered.
