The Name:
This alcohol line is named after my friend, James J James, he's a connoisseur of potent potables. The first one I worked on was American Whiskey, his favorite. I wanted to be able to create a number of alcohol labels that were distinct but cohesive. My aim for this project was to take a humerus approach to different alcohols without being over the top.
The Process:
I had a lot of fun with this project. Each alcohol has its own personality and it was fun to explore solutions for each one. My version of American Whiskey has elements of early patriotism. This can be seen in the color schemes, and fonts. I was thinking about a New Mexico vibe for the tequila. I was aiming for textures and patterns that might later lend themselves to multiple bright colors. The plant is an abstract image of tequila's main ingredient. I was aiming for an Art Deco, 1920's prohibition vibe with the Gin. The Savannah Bourbon was a happy accident from playing with shapes while working on other labels. The shape reminded me of the windmills that are seen on old style farms. The Vodka label has a European modern minimalist look. I was thinking about the clubs in Europe that go for ultra modernism.
